CAS Assessment

The four PASS processes

ProcessWhat it measuresHow weakness shows
PlanningGenerating and monitoring strategyStarting without a plan, not noticing errors, disorganised work
AttentionSelective and sustained attentionDistractibility, missed instructions, fatigue on long tasks
SimultaneousGrasping relationships as a wholeReading comprehension, geometry, problem construction
SuccessiveProcessing information in sequenceReading and spelling difficulty, losing multi-step instructions

Because CAS is relatively independent of vocabulary and school learning, it is particularly informative for bilingual children and where schooling has been interrupted. It is administered individually to children aged 5–17.
